One solution is to buy up-to-date software like<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20170626131209\/https:\/\/www.hamrick.com\/\">VueScan<\/a> for about $80<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20170626131209\/http:\/\/www.silverfast.com\/product\/Nikon\/LS-5000ED-Super-Coolscan-5000-ED-436\/de.html\">Silverfish AI Studio<\/a> for about EUR 450<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But there is a simple way to make the Windows-Version of the Nikon scanner run on your new Mac: Use a windows virtual machine and up-to-date drivers for the scanner.<\/p>\n<h1>or installing a virtual machine on your Mac<\/h1>\n<p>This is what I did:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20170626131209\/http:\/\/www.macworld.co.uk\/how-to\/mac\/how-run-windows-on-mac-vmware-boot-camp-virtualbox-3497251\/\">Install a virtual machine that supports USB2.0 running\u00a0Windows<\/a>. I used <strong>VirtualBox <\/strong>5.1.14 and<strong> Windows 10<\/strong>:\n<ol>\n<li>Install <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20170626131209\/https:\/\/www.virtualbox.org\/wiki\/Downloads\">VirtualBox:<\/a>\n<ol>\n<li>VirtualBox platform packages for OS X host<\/li>\n<li>VirtualBox Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Get and install a Windows 7, 8, 10 license, CD or Image in the Virtual Box<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Configure a <strong>folder<\/strong> on your MacOS for usage in the virtual box for windows. Here you will later store your scanned images. I run MacOS 10.11.6 (15G1217) on a MacMini with 1 TB SSD and 4 TB HDD. \u00a0\u00a0[I will add some screenshots later.]<\/li>\n<li>Configure the Device and <strong>USB 2.0 connection<\/strong> of your Nikon scanner for <strong>exclusive<\/strong>usage in Virtual Box. [I will add some screenshots later.]<\/li>\n<li>Install the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20170626131209\/https:\/\/www.hamrick.com\/old-versions.html\">Windows version of VueScan<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Demo is enough) on your virtual Windows. This will install the most current driver for the Nikon scanner. Test with VueScan if your scanner is available and do a test scan. I used VueScan 9.5.70.<\/li>\n<li>Install the <strong>Windows<\/strong> version of <strong>original Nikon Scan<\/strong> software on your virtual Windows. I used Nikon Scan 4.0.3.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h1>and getting great usability<\/h1>\n<p>as the virtual box behaves like a screen you can switch between Windows and MacOS very naturally.
